Program Learning Objectives and Intended Learning Outcomes

BAGB equips the students to be corporate managers, entrepreneurs, policy consultants, extensions, and researchers with ethics, knowledgeable and global future oriented who adopt agribusiness model practices in a holistic approach to create sustainable tropical farming systems. The vision, mission, and PLO BAGB are as follows.

Vision:

By 2025, BAGB is becoming an excellent study program, international standardized, and actively engaging in agribusiness development through sustainable tropical farming systems.

Mission:

  1. Implementing the morals and ethics to manage agricultural sectors and environment to reach and appreciate resources that God creates
  2. Organizing international agribusiness education to produce high-quality human resources in the field of agribusiness through sustainable farming systems
  3. Disseminating science and technology in the field of agribusiness to develop sustainable farming

Program learning objectives (PLO) of the BAGB Study Program is presented in Table 1.

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO) of the BAGB Study Program is presented in Table 2

ILO6Analyzing and Formulating Agribusiness Policy: Proficient in analyzing agribusiness policy to develop sustainable tropical farming business as based digital literacy.  
ILO7Synthesis and Designing of Business and Community Capacity Building: Proficient in resolving socio-economic issues, advancing the society capacity in developing sustainable agribusiness that is to global changes.

BAGB performs continuous improvement in designing curriculum structure in clear, systematic, and up-to-date manner, to establish high quality graduates as stated in ILO. Since the establishment of BAGB in 2009, two changes in PLO and ILO has been conducted in 2016 and 2018. In fact, the preparation, evaluation and updating of PLO and ILO has been referred to the followings:

  1. In formulating its PLOs, BAGB considered the Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF) The PLOs should depict the accomplishment of IQF for graduate level.

PLO have significant effect on formulation of BAGB’s ILOs. Goals on PLO should be well reflected on ILO statement. The matrix bellow shows that all of PLOs is accommodated by all ILOs. All of ILOs reflects the PLO1, while PLO4 is only supported by four ILOs (Table 3).

  1. Market signals

In formulating its ILO, BAGB considers the needs and expectations of stakeholders and analyses tracer study data. Any suggestions from stakeholders on the need for graduate competencies, especially from relevant graduate users, are used as a reference for evaluating or updating the ILO. BAGB notes all suggestions from stakeholders to consider updating the ILO and in redesigning its curriculum structure, such as:

  1. From Companies as users of graduates (PT. Tanijoy Agritechnology Nusantara, PT. Paragon Technological Innovation, PT. Syngenta Indonesia and the UPT for the Development of Rice and Palawija Seeds, PT. Pertiwi, PT. Petrokimia Gresik) sugest problem solving, logical thinking, data analytics, professional work ethic, capita selecta on the use of technology in agribusiness/farming, communication ethics and the use of technology tools and applications, organizing business and the risk, communication skills and English proficiency, creative, and having leadership skill and social influence as a required competencies.
  2. From assessor Certification Institution of AUN-QA) suggest readjustment of the ILO (15) in order to easily measure its achievement 
  3. Tracer study data (2016 to 2018) states that 92% of graduates have jobs relevant to agribusiness, consisting of 68% of graduates working as managers (marketing, finance, human resources, research & development, production); 15% work as entrepreneurs; 10% as policy makers (assessors, surveyors, academics, researchers, government agencies) and 7% as consultants (public support, extension)
  1. The vision on conducting scientific development in Department of Agricultural Social Economics include agricultural economics, agribusiness management, agricultural-rural sociology and agribusiness communication accommodated in scientific laboratories.

To finish bachelor on BAGB, the students requires to complete a minimum of 144 credits, consisting of 36 compulsory courses (=107 credits), 1 internship (=4 credits), bachelor thesis (= 6 credits) and 27 credits for elective courses (available : 28 electives courses and 20 Freedom to Learn courses). The overall courses are to achieve the required ILO. Subject related courses include 20 Agribusiness scientific courses, while cross-related course include 8 supporting scientific courses, such as Basic for Plant Cultivation, Basic for Soil Science, Basic for Plant Protection, Handling and Processing Technology for Agricultural Products, Agricultural Ecology, and so forth. The other courses are categorized as integrated-related courses, such as Sustainable Farming. Based on the results of ILO measurement, the overall courses contribute to the achievement of ILO1 and ILO5.

In general, the ILO achievement represent adequately good result, with average achievement of 78.44% of the overall components, in which the achievement for Attitude component is 78.64%, General Skills 78.03%, Knowledge 78.33% and Special Skills 78.74%. In addition, the achievements among ILO are not significantly different. The students, however, commonly acquire better performance in achieving ILO7 (Problem Solving and Community Capacity Building), achieving 79.09%. The results are affected by the students’ interaction with the community, while practicing social problem solving in rural and agricultural communities. The Agribusiness Design course stimulates the students to initiate a small business by collaborating with MSMEs with similar business fields. The Community Empowerment in Agribusiness course requires the students to develop and implement the empowerment programs in rural communities. In FTL- based curriculum, the students are required to cooperate with the partners in resolving problems and projects
